The 2022 Lewisville Lake Symphony Voice Competition for Singers Age 21-32

Eligibility

 

The 2022 Lewisville Lake Symphony Voice Competition is open to all singers who are between the ages of 21-32 as of the Saturday, March 12, 2022 audition date. There are two rounds: the Preliminary/Pre-screening Round by video submission, and the Live Final Round in Voertman Hall on the campus of the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. The winners will perform in the Lewisville Lake Symphony’s September 2022 Opera Gala Concert.

 

§ The Preliminary/Pre-screening Round

 

Completed applications through yaptracker.com are due Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 11:59 pm PST. Application information appear below.

 

The Preliminary Round jury will select up to 12 finalists to appear live for the Final Round.

 

All singers will be notified by email of the results of the preliminary round by Jan. 12, 2022. The jury’s decision will be final.

 

§ The Final Round, March 12, 2022

 

Up to 12 singers will be invited from the Preliminary/Pre-Screening Round to the Final Live Auditions Round on March 12, 2022 at Voertman Hall, the College of Music at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.

 

Winners will be announced at the conclusion of the March 12 Final Live Auditions Round. The decision of the judges is final.

§ HOW TO APPLY

 

Step 1. The Preliminary/Pre-screening Round

  • Applicants should apply to the Competition through yaptracker.com. You can also access the Competition website from the Lewisville Lake Symphony home page. http://www.lewisvillesymphony.org

  • The deadline for all completed applications to the Competition is December 15, 2021. Late applications will not be accepted.

  • Competition Repertoire and Video Requirements – All applicants must upload three (3) separate opera arias as three (3) high-quality videos chosen from the standard repertoire and not recorded earlier than September 1, 2020. Along with an applicant’s video submission of 3 arias, contestants must also submit a list of 5 opera arias which must include the 3 arias from their pre-screening videos. The list of 5 arias should be chosen in contrasting styles from the standard repertoire, including at least one in Italian and one in English.

  • The video selections may be accompanied by either piano or orchestra. An applicant's voice teacher is not allowed to accompany the singer on the video.

  • All arias must be memorized and sung in the original language.  

  • It is acceptable to cut orchestral tuttis but not acceptable to cut any vocal content.

 

Step 2. Additional Application Requirements through yaptracker.com

  • Proof of date-of-birth: Documents accepted as proof of date-of-birth include a legible copy of a valid driver’s license, a passport ID page, or birth certificate;

  • A one-page resume or curriculum vitae to include significant professional activities and education/training;

  • A high-quality recent headshot or publicity photo (at least 300 dpi) preferably in JPG format;

  • Completion of all line items on yaptracker.com;

  • A $25 application fee by credit or debit card.

 

 

Step 3. The Final Round, March 12, 2022

  • Up to 12 singers will be invited from the Preliminary/Pre-Screening Round to the Final Live Auditions Round on March 12, 2022 at Voertman Hall, the College of Music at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. The live auditions will take place between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and are 15 minutes in length per singer.

  • Singers accepted to the Final Live Auditions Round on the campus of the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas on March 12, 2022 must indicate their intention to compete in the Final Round by email no later than Friday, February 11, 2022. Once a singer has accepted the invitation to compete in the Final Round, they will be notified by email as to their live audition time on March 12. Finalists will be responsible for their own travel arrangements and expenses.

  • In the Final Live Auditions Round, singers may provide their own pianist or use one of two pianists provided through the Competition. If using one of the Competition pianists, a $50 fee will be required payable through PayPal by the acceptance deadline, February 11, 2022. This is to cover the live audition as well as provide an optional 20-minute rehearsal with the pianist on Saturday, March 12, to be scheduled prior to the audition time.

  • For the Final Round, the singer will choose the first aria from their list of five submitted in the application. The judges will choose a second aria from the contestant's list of 5 arias, with the option of asking the contestant to sing an excerpt/s from any of the 5 arias submitted on their application. Repertoire changes are not permitted after the December 15 deadline.

  • Each singer in the Final Round will have a maximum of 15 minutes for their audition.

 

§ Prize Winners

 

  • The First Place Winner will receive $2,000 and an invitation to perform arias (TBD in consultation with Maestro Ming) on the Symphony’s Opera Gala Concert September 2022. Prize payment will be made at the time of the performance.

  • The Second Prize Winner will receive $1,000 and the same invitation to perform arias on the Symphony’s September 2022 concert. Prize payment will be made at the time of the performance.

  • The 2 winners will perform in the Lewisville Lake Symphony’s September 2022 concert which may or may not include opera arias from the list of the singers’ 5 arias submitted with their application.

  • A runner-up will receive $250. Prize payment will be made at the time of the announcement.

  • If for any reason the First or Second Place Winner is unable to perform with the Symphony on the September 2022 concert, they automatically forfeit the prize money and Symphony performance. The award will fall to the winner next in line.

  • The decision of the judges is final.
