The Grand Prize Winners of the Lewisville Lake Symphony Young Artists' Competition are the guest artists at our February concert and share $1,200 Letitia Goodman, Young Artist Scholarship.

 

The Competition has gained a wide reputation that attracts entries from across the U.S. and winners from several states. 

 

The next one takes place in January 2010

 

The Competition involves a two-step process. In the first round, contestants are asked to submit a performance audiotape or CD. These are evaluated and a portion of the contestants were invited to participate in the second round where they perform live before a panel of distinguished judges. The judges, in addition to a Grand Prize Winner, choose place winners in junior and senior categories.

 

The judges may award three Grand Prizes if warranted by the level of talent.  If that happens, the $1,000 prize money will be split equally among the Grand Prize Winners.

 

The $1,200 Letitia Goodman Memorial Scholarship Award is provided by Bill and Pat Leggett

Lewisville Lake Symphony elects new officers
The Lewisville Lake Symphony has elected new officers for the 2009-2010 upcoming season. Symphony veteran Diana McMillin is the new Chair. The other officers are Dave Henderson, Vice Chair, Martha Whitescarver, Treasurer, Christine Tierney, Assistant Treasurer and Neil Ferguson, Secretary.

 

The other members of the Board are Nancy Wright who is the outgoing Chair, Bill Leggett, Dr. Pamela Mia Paul, Vernell Gregg, Courtney Kennedy and Ernie Sydow.

 

Ex Officio nonvoting members are Adron Ming, Music Director/Conductor, Lyn Cleghorn, President of the Symphony Guild, Robert McCellan, Controller and Jennifer Griffin, Players Representative. Having reached term limits, Duane Johnson and Ian Cleghorn became honorary non-voting members of the Board.

 

Nancy Wright said she is being succeeded by a Chair that has a knack for making things happen with efficiency and dispatch and was the well deserved choice for 2009 Volunteer of the Year. She added, “Diana McMillin has served in a number of positions with the Symphony including Guild President and, way back, orchestra manager.”

Lewisville Mayor proclaims 'Symphony Day'

At this season's opening concert, Lewisville Mayor Gene Carey presents Board Chair Nancy Wright with a proclamation declaring the event took place on the City's 'Symphony Day.' 

 

"The Lewisville Lake Symphony," said the Mayor, "has grown into one of the finest regional orchestras in Texas featuring highly talented musicians."

 

"The orchestra," he added, "is a key contributor to the quality of life for area residents."

Student Rewards Program

Music teachers in the Lewisville, Dallas, and Lake Dallas ISDs and area private music academies can give Symphony tickets as rewards to students who have shown  major improvement, rehearsed diligently, or who might be inspired to greater achievement by attending a concert, etc.  The students are also get extra tickets to give to their parents!

U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison congratulates Symphony on celebrating 25 Seasons    Details

 

Texas Senate Resolution #58 commends Symphony on its 25 year legacy of professionalism and artistic excellence.  The resolution is signed by Lieutenant Governor and Senate President David Dewhurst, Secretary of the Senate Patsy Spaw  and Senate Member Jane Nelson. 

 

A Texas House Resolution presented by Representative Tan Parker recognizes the Symphony's outstanding contributions to the cultural vitality of the region and its cooperation with the University of North Texas.
