Shannon is 13 years old, has already played with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. She will play at Carnegie Hall in the 2006 Fiddlefest

Shannon Lee
Thirteen-year-old Shannon Lee began studying the violin at the age of four.  Born in Canada, she moved to Plano, Texas when she was two and first appeared with orchestra at the age of nine as soloist with the Texas Chamber Orchestra, having won the Grand Prize in its Young Artist Competition. 

In 2004, Shannon won the national top prize among violin, viola, cello, and bass entrants in the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) Biennial National Solo Competition’s Junior Division (18 and under). She was also awarded the Director’s Prize in the 2004 Kingsville International Competition.

Shannon recently performed with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra with conductor Andrew Litton as a Grand Prize winner of their 2004 Lynn Harrell Concerto Competition. This year she also has appeared on the nationally broadcasted radio show, “From the Top” and was awarded the 2005 Bayard H. Friedman Award for Outstanding Student in Performing Arts.

In November of 2005, she will go on a Texas tour with the Dallas Symphony. Shannon will make her Carnegie Hall debut at the 2006 Fiddlefest and has been invited by Maestro Christof Perick to perform with his orchestras in Charlotte, NC and in Germany.
 
Shannon Lee has studied privately with Jan Mark Sloman since 2000.  Her previous teachers include Paul Landefeld and Ann Grosshans.  She has performed privately and in master class for Itzhak Perlman, Jaime Laredo, Arnold Steinhardt, Ida Kavafian, and Pamela Frank.  Her summer activities have included working with Mr. Sloman at the Heifetz International Music Institute in New Hampshire and at The Institute for Strings, a chamber music program held at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
 
Shannon attends Spring Creek Academy and enjoys reading, swimming, and computer games.  Shannon's favorite books are To Kill a Mockingbird, The Giver, and the Harry Potter books. Her favorite computer games are Sim City and Age of Empires, and she also likes experimenting with making web pages.

Shannon also enjoys playing chamber music with her friends throughout the year.  She plays a 350-year-old three-quarter size Italian violin made by Maggini, generously loaned to her by Charles Beare through Michael Selman of J & A Beare.

Xiao Bo Chen
In 2000, Xiao-Bo Chen made her Carnegie Hall debut after winning a prize in the Frinna Awerbuch Competition in New York.  She has also performed as a soloist with the Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram said that her performance of the Beethoven Third Piano Concerto "presented both thunder and impetuosity."

 Xiao-Bo was born into a musical family in Shanghai and graduated from the prestigious High School of Shanghai Conservatory of Music with top honors. After coming to the States in 1992, she received her Performer's Certificate and Artist Diploma in piano performance from Texas Christian University.

Piano competitions won by Xiao-Bo including the Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Spain, and Martin Metorial Piano Competition at TCU. She is currently pursuing her Master's Degree from University of North Texas in Piano Performance under the guidance of Dr. Pamela Mia Paul.
