The Vernell
Gregg
Competition
attracts entries
from across the
U.S. and
involves a
two-step
process. In the
first round,
contestants are
asked to submit
a performance
audiotape or CD.
These are
evaluated and a
portion of the
contestants were
invited to
participate in
the second round
where they
perform live
before a panel
of distinguished
judges.
The Competition
requires
entrants to
perform
compositions
from a specified
repertoire.
Exceptions from
the repertoire
will rarely be
granted. The
Symphony looked
at studies done
by the College
of Music at the
University of
North Texas that
examined
how repetitive
motion injuries
suffered by
musicians can be
mitigated by
proper training
in childhood.
As a result the
the Symphony
made changes to
the Young
Artists’
Competition.
