2005
Angel
Awards
The Greater Lewisville Arts Council is dedicated to the development and
promotion of the arts for the enrichment of the quality of life in the
greater Lewisville community. The GLAC also works with the City of
Lewisville in the grant application process for Hotel Occupancy Tax
grants.
All of the arts groups represented by the GLAC need volunteers to
thrive. The annual Angel Awards ceremony is the time each year when we
honor these outstanding volunteers that give so generously of their time
and talents to help make the arts possible in our community.
Lewisville
Lake Symphony
Bill Leggett
Bill Leggett is the
Symphony’s 2005 Angel. He is one of those "dream volunteers" that all
organizations would like to clone. Bill joined the LLS Guild several
years ago and immediately took on one of the toughest jobs available --
logistics coordinator. For a group that must give all of its
performances in "borrowed" space, the job of coordinating all of the
signage, tables, easels, posters, program delivery, lighting and much
more can be daunting. But not for Bill - his favorite saying is "that's
logistics, I'll take care of it".....and he does....time after time
after time.
In addition, Bill has
been a tireless promoter of symphony functions, an inventive problem
solver, an effective fundraiser and an enthusiastic recruiter of new
people to join the ranks of symphony volunteers. He was elected to the
LLS Board last year and is now Chairman of the Board. The Lewisville
Lake Symphony Association thanks Bill Leggett for his "leadership by
example" and the positive energy he brings to the group.
Visual
Arts League
Raymund “Brandi” Evora
The Visual Art League is
pleased to recognize Raymund "Brandi" Evora as their 2005 Angel. Brandi
joined the Visual Art League after visiting an LISD student exhibition
at the art center that included his daughter's art. Brandi quickly
volunteered his talents to design a web site and help with the
newsletter. Brandi did design and create the Visual Art League's web
site at visualartleague.org and is currently re-designing it to be more
interactive. Brandi also designs the layout of each publication of
Viewpoints, the members' newsletter. He has served on the Board for 3
years and is currently 1st Vice President of our organization.
LakeCities
Ballet Theatre
Susan Gilbert
LakeCities Ballet Theatre would like to
recognize Susan Gilbert as our 2005 Angel. Since 2001, Susan has been
an invaluable part of all LBT productions as our wardrobe supervisor.
Susan is very creative and can do anything costume related. In
cooperation with the artistic director, she can design and sew new
costumes. She can alter or spruce up existing costumes. She is very
adept in making costumes look great on a limited budget.
This year Susan undertook the huge job
of reorganizing our costume storage. She consolidated two storage units
into one larger unit. Costumes, fabric and trims were inventoried,
organized and labeled. During this process, costumes no longer usable
to LBT were set aside. Susan set up an e-bay account to list these
costumes for sale. In just a few weeks quite a few have sold. LBT is
grateful that Susan has chosen to share her time and talents with our
organization.
Greater Lewisville Arts Council
Brenda Crawford
The Greater Lewisville Arts Council would like to
honor Brenda Crawford as our GLAC Angel. Brenda has been involved with
the arts council since its inception and her contributions over the
years are numerous. Brenda has a great deal of insight on what’s going
on in Lewisville and she shares that insight with the GLAC. Several
years ago Brenda successfully worked with the City of Lewisville for a
new grant application process for the Hotel Occupancy Tax funding. The
process is now more streamline and consistent from year to year. Brenda
is currently the GLAC treasurer.
The purpose of the Greater Lewisville Arts Council is
to nurture the development of the arts for the enrichment of the quality
of life in the Greater Lewisville community. Brenda has spent a
lifetime doing this and we are so appreciative of her efforts!
Greater Lewisville Arts Council
Barbara Hartman
The Greater Lewisville Arts Council
would like to recognize Barbara Oliver Hartman as our community angel.
This past winter the GLAC and Visual Arts League hosted a five week
showing of Barbara’s quilts. Barbara is a nationally known artist and
her quilts have been displayed throughout the US.
This exhibit provided valuable exposure
for all the arts groups in Lewisville. Over 500 people came to see
Barbara’s beautiful, creative works of art. Many city and business
leaders attended this exhibit. It was wonderful to have an art exhibit
inspire so much attention. The GLAC is so appreciative that Barbara
chose to share her considerable talent with us.
Greater Lewisville Community Theatre
Rhonda Buras
The Greater Lewisville
Community Theatre is pleased to present this year's Angel Award to
Rhonda Buras. Rhonda has been volunteering at GLCT for the past three
years, and has been a Board member for two years. She is the House
Committee Chair and serves on the Publicity committee. Rhonda
coordinates the ushering and concession duties, working with volunteers
from Lewisville High School's Honor Society and ROTC programs, and makes
sure the House operations run smoothly. She has also pitched in to help
with props, mailings, opening night parties, and special projects such
as the Holiday Stroll. In short, Rhonda is always willing and ready to
help GLCT bring its best to the community, and she does so with an
upbeat, positive attitude. She has truly earned her wings!
