Lyn Cleghorn is Lewisville Lake

 Symphony’s ‘Angel of the Year’

Lyn Cleghorn is the Lewisville Lake Symphony’s 2008 ‘Angel of the Year.’  The award will be presented at a coming ceremony organized by the Greater Lewisville Arts Council.

Symphony Board Chair Nancy Wright says “Lyn Cleghorn is one of those volunteers you wonder how you ever managed without.  When she joined the ranks of the Symphony helpers, she was exactly that -- someone who would help wherever she was needed.”  Initially a box office volunteer, she quickly got involved in many other aspects of the symphony's work.

Adds Wright, “Lyn has served as Vice-President and is currently President of the Guild where she leads by example, jumping in to do whatever is needed.  In addition to her leadership role, she has taken on responsibility for writing municipal and foundation grants and has served as co-chairperson for the symphony two major fundraising events for the past two years.”

Lyn's positive attitude and ability to get things done, along with her leadership over the past several years, says Wright, easily qualify her as this year's Symphony Angel.

London-born Lyn Cleghorn immigrated to the US in 1963 and worked in Pan Am’s legal department in New York.  That is where she met her husband, fellow Londoner, Ian, who worked in the airline’s marketing department.  Jobs with various travel companies moved the couple around America and eventually to Texas.

Lyn decided that her real calling was to be a teacher and taught middle school dyslexic children in LISD for a number of years.  Retirement has switched her energy to the Symphony and a number of other organizations in the area.  She has an about-to-be-married daughter in Chicago and a stepdaughter and four very energetic grandchildren in Philadelphia.
