Amber Wellborn

"This program is chock full of the things I love most to sing. This particular group of arias is Heaven- long, flowy, indulgent lines and orchestration that is to die for. Then I get to go across the spectrum and enjoy my favorite Weill standards in a mildly different style. The Spirituals are close not only to my heart, but live in my soul. The person for whom they were written is the same for whom I sing.

Amber Wellborn has distinguished herself as a soprano with a rich lyric tone and musical sensitivity. At the age of 17, she was featured in the National Public Radio program “From the Top,” hosted by Christopher O’Reilly and in 2008, at the age of 22, she won First Place in the prestigious Dallas Opera Guild Career Grant competition in 2008. In addition, she has been a regional finalist for the Metropolitan National Council Auditions and has won numerous first place awards in various levels of the competitive National Association of Teachers of Singing Texoma Regional Auditions.

Opera roles have included the title role in Suor Angelica, Mimì in La Bohème, Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro, Miss Jessel in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, and Fiordiligi in Così fan Tutte. Concert work with orchestra has included solo appearances in Haydn’s Paukenmesse with Schola Cantorum in Dallas and Ft. Worth, Southeastern Oklahoma State University choirs in their production of Respighi’s Laud to the Nativity and, most recently, with the distinguished Turtle Creek Chorale in their “Partners in Harmony” program at Meyerson Symphony Hall, where she was the soprano soloist in Mozart’s Requiem.

In summer of 2009, she traveled to Taiwan with the University of North Texas A Cappella choir, where she was a featured soloist in the International Taiwanese Music Festival. An active recitalist, Ms. Wellborn has performed programs regionally, including recitals for the Puccini Society in Dallas. In addition, she was featured in various recitals and programs for the Casalmaggiore International Chamber Music Festival in Italy.

Ms. Wellborn holds the Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of North Texas where she studied with Linda Di Fiore. While there, she was the recipient of the Cecilia Cunningham Box Scholarship and the David Schrader Opera Scholarship.
